Omaha On My Mind

Yesterday was the first time I cried over missing my friends (family!) in Omaha. I'm surprised it's taken so long! I miss...

...the Fudges - Fat Burger, Amy and her smiles and talks and my two funny little Fudgekins.

...the Wisecarvers, Mexican and Coke Zero at their house, chatting and watching the kids do their martial arts and swing choir routines.

...hearing Erik and Pat's voices from the pulpit

...the Ribars - oh, my Ribars!

...the familiar streets and cornfields

...seeing the same wonderful people every week and the comfort of knowing they were there even if we hadn't talked for a while

...the High School kids and all the leaders we served with, dear friends

...going to Starbucks and running into someone I knew every time

...when my family all lived together on Nicholas Street

So many other moments, places, memories, people! I am so thankful for it all and miss it all so much.

In the middle of last night it started pouring rain. That is something else I miss about Nebraska - the crazy thunder storms! I listened for a long time. It was so comforting and nostalgic and made me ache for my sweet people even more.

This morning was gray and cold, melancholy but cozy; I liked it. I got to wear my wellies today, which remind me of Steph. I decided to go to our Starbucks and have my quiet time with a cup of green tea. As I was finishing my journaling, telling God how homesick I was, I noticed someone walking toward me - it was Martha from our church here, and Mary was with her! They are such kind, beautiful women! It was such a blessing from the Lord, as if He brought me there just to encourage me with them as I was feeling lonely. He loves me!

Paul felt this way about his dear friends in Philippi: "How I long for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus." This is how I feel for my people in Omaha! I miss you guys!

Dear Francey,

I love your blog and miss you very much. Seems like there is a lot of us thinking about the past, what made us feel comfortable and protected. I can't wait for the day when we will ALL be together with God and have the perfect peace and comfort we so long for. Love ya, Uncle Jim
